Scott Day, a building surveyor from Hornchurch, is lacing up his trainers for this year's London Marathon — and he's running every mile in memory of his nan June, and for the elderly people of our community who need us most.
In late 2024, Scott lost his nan — someone who had been a huge part of his life. Having lost her husband some 20 years previously, June relied on her family for company and support as she got older. Despite this support, loneliness still played a factor in June's life at times.
That's what led Scott to us. The Communi-Tea Circle provides regular social gatherings for elderly people across Hornchurch, Upminster and the surrounding areas — a warm, welcoming space for those who live alone and don't have the regular support network that Scott's nan was so lucky to have.
Scott is taking on 26.2 miles so we can keep hosting these events and reach more people who need our support.
